Nokia 8: Specs, features and availability

Nokia's first flagship phone in many years was spotted for the first time at CES recently, and its main USP is going to be camera technology.

Nokia 8 will feature 24-MP and 12-MP cameras with Carl Zeiss optics along with several other premium features.

HMD Global launched the Nokia 6 at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas recently, revealing superior audio quality, impressive build quality and premium specifications but the contract manufacturer also said that it intends to offer the best mobile experience at every price point and will unveil more Nokia smartphones before the end of the year.

Among the upcoming Nokia phones, the Nokia 8 is slated to be the one which will take on premium flagship phones this year. While many of us were expecting it to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress in late February, a few techies spotted the device at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show and someone managed to get a few snaps of the flagship as well!

Fresh images of Nokia 8, which is set to be launched at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month, have arriveed on the web and going by its looks and specifications, it is fai to suggest that it will be capable of taking on the best premium phones in the industry.

Concept Creator has shared a fresh YouTube video on how the upcoming Nokia phone will look like. The video hints at a 5.3-inch display with leaner bezels, a tough Gorilla Glass 5 screen and an all-metal body with volume rockers and power button on one side and a microSD slot placed below them.

The phone will also sport a home button which looks a lot like the ones in Samsung's premium phones. Like Samsung's phones, the home button in the Nokia 8 (P1?) will feature an embedded fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication.

The video maker, as well as other sources, claim that the phone will feature up to 256GB of storage with 128GB MicroSD slot storage, up to 6GB of RAM and a 3,500 mAh battery. He also claims that the phone will feature Snapdragon 835 processor but given that the processor may first launch with Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, Nokia may either choose a Snapdragon 821 processor or may defer the launch by a few weeks to accommodate the new chip.

Two Nokia 8 handsets (prototypes?) were placed on display at Qualcomm's booth at CES, with one of them featuring the Snapdragon 821 processor and the other one featuring the Snapdragon 835. A video showing the two handsets also focussed on significant camera bumps on the back which are very similar to the bumps caused by Nokia's PureView cameras during the Lumia era. The devices also looked very similar to the just-launched Nokia 6 which leaves very little doubt about them being real Nokia 8s.

As per 9to5Google, the phones field software keys instead of physical buttons and that the rear camera setup will include a 24-MP Carl Zeiss lens with OIS and EIS. The front camera will be a 12-MP one and the phone will also feature 6GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB of storage options and a MicroSD slot. With HMD Global expected to launch the phone officially at Mobile World Congress next month, we will be able to verify these rumoured specifications in just over a month from now.
